People who recently left the city of Kherson and surrounding settlements are increasingly turning to the Kherson hub «Vilni razon» (EN: “Free together”) in the city of Odesa. In September, ADRA Ukraine specialists registered about 50 people here for cash assistance from the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

Registration in the hub is being carried out for the fourth month in a row. If only a few people applied for help in the first months of work, the number of registered people increased significantly in September. During the month alone, registrations were held twice — on September 18 and 29.

Among those who come to the hub are people who left very recently. During the last registration, in particular, evacuees who left the Kherson region only a few days before, received IDP certificates and learned about the possibility of receiving help from other displaced persons.

They tell ADRA employees about life under the constant threat of airstrikes and shelling. Some of the residents of dangerous areas are so used to monitoring the flights of drones that they tried to determine the short gaps between them in order to reach the store in time.

«People say they have already learned how drones fly. If a swarm flew by, it was understood that they could have about 20 minutes to get to the store quickly, under trees and bushes. They talk a lot about how they lived there. But it has become impossible for some people to stay, » says an employee of ADRA Ukraine.

Among the reasons for leaving are constant attacks and damage to residential buildings, according to people who turn to the hub. At the same time, information about the possibility to register for help is spreading among the people of Kherson themselves: people call acquaintances and tell each other about the work of the hub.

The amount of cash assistance is 12,300 hryvnias per person. The payment is designed to cover basic needs for three months.

Assistance is provided within the framework of the UN WFP Program «Humanitarian aid by priority for evacuees and victims of attacks» with the support of ADRA Switzerland.
