From schools and medical facilities to water and shelters: representatives of ADRA Denmark visited communities in the Mykolaiv region
Restoration of educational and medical institutions, access to drinking water and shelters, as well as support for the initiatives of the communities themselves, these directions of the new project were discussed during the monitoring visit of ADRA Denmark representatives to the Mykolaiv region.
On September 10–11, representatives of ADRA Denmark together with the project team and head of ADRA Ukraine Andrii Babientsov visited Bashtanka, Novyi Buh, Mykolaiv cities and Kalynivka village. They visited both the facilities of the new DANIDA UTP project, the implementation of which began in early 2026, and the locations where assistance was provided within the framework of previous DANIDA 3 projects and with the support of the European Union.
For example, at the preschool institution «Yahidka» in Bashtanka city, work is currently underway to repair the food block and restore sanitary facilities for personnel. About 100 children will be able to visit the institution after the works are completed.
The new project combines two main areas of work.
The first involves the restoration of social infrastructure in war-affected communities of the Mykolaiv region. In particular, it is about the reconstruction of educational and medical institutions so that people can receive basic medical care, and children can study in proper conditions with access to drinking water, safe shelters, sanitary facilities and other necessary amenities.
The second direction will give the communities themselves the opportunity to participate in the restoration and implement their own mini-projects. They are aimed at repairing damaged infrastructure, improving access to drinking water, arranging shelters, sports and social spaces.
During the visit, representatives of ADRA Denmark spoke with the management of communities and institutions that received assistance within the framework of completed projects and began preparations at new facilities of the current project.
Community representatives noted that thanks to this support, boiler houses were renovated in the communities of Mykolaiv region, which made it possible to provide local residents with heat during the heating season. The Rozhnovskyi Tower was also restored, thanks to which more than 3,500 residents of Kalynivka village and nearby settlements gained constant access to clean drinking water.
Within the framework of the new project, educational institutions will be able to resume work in an offline format, and students and local residents will have access to shelters, drinking water, improved sanitary conditions, spaces for participation in joint public events and other necessary services.
The DANIDA UTP (Ukraine Transition Programme) «Strengthening civil society and recovery efforts in Mykolaiv through social infrastructure reconstruction, civil society engagement, private sector support, and mine action» project is implemented in partnership with ADRA Denmark with funding from Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and support from DanChurchAid and Norwegian Church Aid in Ukraine (DCA-NCA in Ukraine).
