In Sumy, children were taught to take care of themselves at an art therapy training
On June 26, ADRA Ukraine specialists held a training session named “Flower of self-care” for children aged 7-10 from the Zarichny district of the Sumy city. The event was organized with the support of the Government of Canada and ADRA Canada. Its goal — is to support the emotional well-being of participants, help children better understand their own needs, and develop self-support skills.
The training created a safe and warm space in which every child could relax and focus on the creative process. The program included an introduction in a playful way, a thematic conversation, a creative group task, art therapy (sculpting), movement and “a final circle”. Thanks to vivid materials, collective support and symbolic modeling, children were able to switch their attention from external anxiety factors to their own experiences. In times of instability, it is the skill of taking care of oneself that is especially valuable for harmonious development.
During the class, the children were active, sincerely interested, and open to interaction. They inspiredly created their own images of care and creatively understood what they heard. An atmosphere of trust and support has contributed to the main goal — to give every child an experience that strengthens, inspires and shapes important life orientations.
