Barrierlessness, care and space for the community: how the communities of Mykolaiv region implement their initiatives with ADRA Ukraine

The ADRA Ukraine team carried out a monitoring visit to the Mykolaiv region, where initiatives are being implemented within the framework of the “Community Initiative Support” program. A total of 17 projects are implemented by the joint efforts of residents and local partners in communities. Among these settlements:

Pryvilne — «Free access: barrier-free in action».
Reconstruction is underway in the premises of the Inclusive Resource Center: doorways are being expanded, new doors are being installed — all to ensure physical barrier-free. The project aims to create a space where every child can move, learn and receive support without obstacles.

Prybuzke — «Delicious break».
The arrangement of a functional space for feeding 144 children — lyceum students and pupils of the preschool education institution is ongoing. For this, refrigerators, microwave ovens, furniture — are purchased, everything they need for a comfortable, safe and hygienic meal during the school day.

Partizanske — «Public space».
A multifunctional hub for children, youth and adults is being created here. The premises have already been renovated by local residents, and now it is being filled with appliances, furniture and office supplies. After completion, the hub will become an open space for leisure, education, psychological support, meetings and joint activities.

Pervomaiske — «Kindness room».
A warm and accessible space is being created in the Social Services Centre, where group psychological, legal, educational and information activities will take place for internally displaced persons, veterans, youth, elderly and persons with disabilities. This initiative is aimed at strengthening social cohesion and improving the quality of social services in the community.

The program is being implemented with the support of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) in partnership with ADRA Denmark and in coordination with DanChurchAid (DCA). Its goal — is to promote the emergence of local solutions that improve access to social services, education, psychological support and create safe spaces for community residents.
