«Light inside me»: in Chernihiv, children created candles with their own hands
On August 11, pupils of the children’s and teenage club «Chaika» (EN: Seagull) in Chernihiv created candles with their own hands during the art therapy event «Light inside me». Each of them was not only the result of creative work, but also a symbolic reminder for the child about his own inner world and the forces that can be relied on in difficult moments.
During the meeting, children worked with natural materials, communicated and learned through creativity to better understand their emotions and find their own internal resources. Such activities help to shift attention, relax and reduce emotional stress.
Special attention was paid to creating a safe and friendly atmosphere where every child could express himself without fear of evaluation. And the participants took the self-made candles with them as a small reminder of the meeting and «Light inside me».
The art therapy event was conducted by ADRA Ukraine psychologist Yuliia Bohush and facilitator Vladyslava Voilo as part of the Mental Health, Winterization and Protection (MHWP) project with the support of the Government of Canada and ADRA Canada.
