Recovery trainings were held in Zhytomyr for people undergoing rehabilitation
In July, ADRA Ukraine psychologist Yuliya Zalutska conducted trainings in two rehabilitation centers in the city of Zhytomyr, which are part of the International Anti-Drug Association. The events, which were supported by the Swedish charitable organization Radiohjälpen and ADRA Sweden in total reached 45 participants.
During the meetings, the psychologist introduced those present to the concept of mindfulness (awareness): they talked about what it is, how to be present in the present moment. A variety of tools have been explored to stop the flow of thoughts and focus on what is happening right now, rather than past experiences or future anxieties.
Particular attention was paid to body-oriented techniques: participants learned to «hear» their body, recognize its signals, use body sensations as a way to self-regulation and relieve tension.
They also studied their own experience through art therapy practices. Creativity, as always, has become a powerful tool for expressing the unspoken and finding inner forces for recovery.
