Iryna remembers very well the morning of February 24, 2022. At 5 a.m. she woke up in Izium from a phone call, it was her daughter who was in Kharkiv at that time. Her daughter was very frightened and said that there were explosions in her city. One can only imagine what the woman felt at that moment. Iryna’s daughter begged to take her away from there. Having quickly collected all her documents and refueled the car, Iryna went to her daughter. On February 25, at 7 a.m., she was in Kharkiv. However, the family decided to return to Izium. After all, at that time, no one could accurately predict the course of the war, and it seemed that it would be safer in a small town.
A few days later, on February 28, Iryna saw the first planes dropping bombs on her city. All this happened for almost a week. The life of the residents of Izium became similar to frames from a movie. Communication was very bad, so people had to know all the news not from official sources, but from acquaintances and relatives.
Then there were hard times for everyone. There was no contact with relatives, no food, no water. However, there were people who, despite the danger, tried to help others – they were volunteers. Iryna is very grateful to the charitable organization ADRA for food assistance. At that time, people had almost nothing, there was no work, everyone ran out of food, and they had to go to the river for water. Therefore, food kits were very appropriate.

Iryna’s family has received food assistance within the framework of the project with the support of the World Food Programme of the United Nations and ADRA Switzerland. This project covers the most vulnerable regions of Ukraine, primarily frontline and hard-to-reach areas.
