Alina Turlevska, SMM manager of ADRA Ukraine, tells what path she took to join the team of the charity organization.

— My story began at the beginning of the full-scale war in March 2022. Then ADRA Ukraine, in partnership with ADRA Romania, helped evacuate my family from the occupation from the city of Sumy.

I was the first to leave my family, because I lived in Kyiv. And to be honest, I did not plan to go to Romania or stay there at all. At the time, I didn’t even know that there were organizations like ADRA.

When I found myself in Chernivtsi, on the border with Romania, I did not understand what to do next. And that’s where the ADRA team met me. They helped to find a foster family in Romania. It so happened that I lived in this family for quite a long time. They were incredible people — very warm, open, caring.

And within two weeks, ADRA Romania, together with ADRA Ukraine, were able to evacuate my family from Sumy.

I even have photos left where I volunteer with them at the border in an ADRA outfit. These are very warm and dear memories for me.

Subsequently, I volunteered in Romania for almost a year together with ADRA. I lived in the same family, whose members were also volunteers of the organization. We even started a joint project — translated and voiced books. This also took place within the framework of the ADRA Romania initiatives.

At the same time, we transferred humanitarian aid from Romania to Ukraine. So ADRA played an extremely important role in my life. For me, this is a very personal, very deep sense of gratitude and love.

I came to an official job in ADRA Ukraine later. I was looking for a job that could be combined with humanitarian service. After experience in business and startups, I felt like I wanted another — more meaningful, real. Three years have passed like this.

When I returned to Ukraine, I saw an announcement that ADRA was looking for a content manager, an SMM manager. I wrote to the head of the department, and as he later said, he was impressed by my experience.

For me, it became not just a job, but an opportunity to thank. An opportunity to be among the people who once supported me. Because for me ADRA is about very close, native things.

And it’s an amazing feeling.

If we talk about motivation, then the reaction of people is the most inspiring. Their smiles, their eyes.

You feel gratitude very clearly. It could be a child who laughs heartily. Or a grandmother who treats you to the last apple from the garden. It is a simple and extremely strong human warmth at the same time.

When you see faith and hope in people. When you realize that thanks to your efforts, someone starts to glow from the inside — it motivates you to work even more, even more devotedly.
