In the front-line city of Mykolaiv, even an ordinary children’s birthday acquires special value. This is exactly what happened during the Birthday Party master class, which the team of the Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine organized for children living in war conditions.

The most touching moment was a surprise for nine-year-old Sofiia. It was on this day that the girl celebrated her birthday, and the participants of the event congratulated her right during the master class. For Sofiia, it was a pleasant surprise, and for other children, another reason to share joy and give sincere smiles.

Living and growing up in a front-line city it is not easy for every child. Constant air anxieties, danger and uncertainty often deprive children of the feeling of an ordinary carefree childhood. That is why such meetings become much larger than just leisure.

During the master class, children created holiday decorations, postcards and symbolic gifts, participated in moving games, communicated and supported each other. In such a relaxed atmosphere, they could at least for a while distract themselves from daily worries, show creativity and just be children.

The event was held by psychologist Oksana Derkach and facilitator Kateryna Andreychenko. Such classes help children live emotions in a safe way, restore internal resources and feel support nearby.

The master class was held at the Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine in Mykolaiv as part of the “IHA MHWP” project, which is implemented with the support of the Government of Canada and ADRA Canada.
