Art as a bridge to oneself: teenagers in Mykolaiv learned to understand their own feelings
On July 24, the Mykolaiv Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine held a psychological training for teenagers called «Art as a bridge to oneself». Together with psychologist Oksana Derkach, the participants explored their own emotions through creativity. The event was held within the framework of the MHWP project with the support of the Canadian government and ADRA Canada.
Modern teenagers face numerous challenges every day: educational load, social pressure, self-seeking. Often they lack a space where you can freely express what you feel — without judgment and analysis. Such a space was created during the training.
Participants used various materials and techniques: watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, chalk, etc. Anger, joy, sadness, anxiety — all this was reflected on paper.
«It was a journey full of discovery, creativity and real emotions. And every time the results were amazing — not so much from an artistic point of view as from a psychological point of view. The training has become a powerful way to realize and accept your feelings», — the organizers of the event note.
