From October 21 to 24, Ukraine was visited by representatives of the Swedish television and radio company Radiohjälpen and ADRA Sweden — donors of the SMHUF project. During the working visit, they visited the locations where ADRA Ukraine is implementing the project to collect materials for a fundraising campaign in Sweden aimed at further supporting Ukrainian children and their families.

The Radiohjälpen team recorded the stories of people whose lives changed thanks to the project, paying special attention to children and youth. In Khmelnytskyi, the guests visited the Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine, talked with children who received psychological help and with a team of specialists who work with them every day. The goal of — is to convey these live testimonies to the Swedish audience, to show the truth about the challenges experienced by Ukrainian families during the war.

ADRA Sweden representatives stayed in Ukraine longer and visited protection and support centers in Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Kyiv. They met with SMHUF project teams, center workers and directly with beneficiaries to see exactly how initiatives are being implemented on the ground.

During the visit to Zhytomyr Lyceum №24, where activities were also carried out within the framework of the project, the delegation met with the director of the institution, students and representatives of the school self-government. The guests attended a group event held by a psychologist and facilitator of the Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine. The class was aimed at uniting children and forming basic stress resistance skills.

The SMHUF (“Supporting Mental Health for Ukrainian Families”) project has been implemented with the support of ADRA Sweden and Radiohjälpen since June 2024 and is currently coming to an end. Its main goal is — to support children, teenagers, young people, as well as parents and teachers, helping to overcome the psychological consequences of war. The project covered five locations — Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Dnipro. Individual and group consultations of psychologists took place here, as well as facilitation activities — information meetings, trainings, security and social support events.

As a result of the monitoring visit, the partners noted that such initiatives remain extremely relevant for children, youth, parents and teachers who continue to live in war.
