«Delicious break» in Prybuzke: how a space for feeding schoolchildren was created in the front-line community
In the village of Prybuzke of the Halytsynivska community of the Mykolaiv region, the project «Smachna pererva» (EN: Delicious break) was implemented, and premises for heating and eating food were set up for 117 students of the local school. The project was implemented by NGO «Miy napriam» (EN: My direction) thanks to a grant received within the framework of the program «Community Initiative Support», which is implemented by ADRA Ukraine with the support of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and ADRA Denmark in a consortium with DanChurchAid.
The school in Prybuzke was completely destroyed as a result of a direct hit. While waiting for its restoration continues, the educational process is temporarily organized in another room of the former village council building. There is no food block here, so children study for a limited number of hours and previously did not have the opportunity to eat fully.
The initiators of the project were parents, school director, teachers and technical staff. It was with the joint efforts of the community that the project application was prepared, which was implemented by the NGO «My direction».
In the premises of the former assembly hall, they carried out repairs on their own and created a full-fledged infrastructure for healthy and safe food. In particular, the following were installed here: microwave ovens, refrigerators for food storage, electric sweaters, tables and chairs, necessary communications, including sewage, which allows to done the appropriate level of hygiene. Thanks to this, every child can calmly warm up home-cooked food, drink warm tea and eat without queues and haste.
In addition, the public organization received additional funding and installed solar panels. Now the space is completely energy independent. This is critically important for the front-line Mykolaiv region, where power grids are often damaged and long-term blackouts occur due to shelling. Solar panels guarantee uninterrupted operation of the room even during blackouts.
