Due to the threat of FPV drones, ADRA Ukraine is stopping humanitarian transportation in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions
ADRA Ukraine stops humanitarian transportation in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions due to high security risks on the routes. At the same time, transportation within the “REACT” project will continue in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Buses helped people of vulnerable categories from communities where access to necessary services is limited to reach health facilities, banks, post offices and other institutions. A significant part of passengers are elderly and people with disabilities.
This became one of the important factors during the decision. The territories through which the routes passed in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions are under constant threat of FPV drone attacks. In case of danger, it can be difficult to quickly leave the bus to all passengers, especially older people and people with disabilities.
The reality of this threat was also confirmed by the incident on September 14, when an FPV drone attacked an ADRA Ukraine bus near Myroliubivka village in Dnipropetrovsk region, which was carrying out humanitarian transportation for residents of the Kherson region. There were no passengers in the cabin at that time, and the driver managed to leave the bus and received a slight concussion. The drone exploded next to the vehicle, damaging it with an explosive wave and debris.
After risk assessment, the safety specialist of ADRA Ukraine recommended to stop transportation on these routes. The organization cannot continue routes under conditions where it is impossible to properly guarantee the safety of passengers and drivers.
At the same time, humanitarian transportation in the Dnipropetrovsk region continues, where the operating routes will work as usual. The possibility of expanding the route network in the region is also being considered.
Transportation is carried out within the framework of the “REACT” project with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH).
The project started on June 15, 2026 and provided transport support for people of vulnerable categories.
During the implementation of the project, 985 people were transported in the Zaporizhzhia region, including 51 children and 98 persons with disabilities.
647 people were transported in the Kherson region, including 108 children and 51 persons with disabilities.
Until the end of May 2026, social transportation was also carried out within the framework of the “WMTW” project in four regions of Ukraine: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.
During the implementation of the project, 11,953 people were transported in the Kherson region, including 580 children and 187 persons with disabilities.
6,081 people were transported in Zaporizhzhia region, including 244 children and 483 persons with disabilities.
