ADRA Ukraine drivers learned to save lives in critical situations
In the city of Dnipro, ADRA Ukraine organized a training on providing first aid for drivers of social transport. The event was held in collaboration with MedHelp, an organization that specializes in training emergency response skills.
Six drivers and one technical specialist of the project «Safe water, mental peace, social transport and winterization for Ukrainians affected by conflict (WMTW Ukraine)» took part in the training. It is these employees who provide daily social transportation in Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The course program covered both the basic principles of pre-medical care — bleeding arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, wound treatment, —, and specialized skills: anti-shock position and tactical evacuation.
During the training, the participants practiced practical actions that can save lives:
– critical status recognition and ambulance call;
– algorithm of actions in case of loss of consciousness and CPR;
– bleeding stop technique and correct dressing (bandage) application;
– strangulation and seizure aid;
– support victims before the arrival of medics.
It is especially important that it is social transport drivers who come into contact with the elderly, people with disabilities, mothers with children and other vulnerable categories of the population every day. Now they have the knowledge and confidence to act quickly in critical situations.
One of the drivers shared his impressions: «When making trips, people trust us with their own lives. Now I know I can help in case of an emergency».
