ADRA Ukraine monitored winter aid and provided psychosocial support to displaced persons in the Sumy region
In December, the ADRA Ukraine team, within the framework of the MHWP project, made a monitoring visit to collective residence centers in the Sumy region. These centres, which are inhabited by internally displaced persons, were previously provided with winter assistance in the form of fuel briquettes for heating. In total, ADRA Ukraine provided support to seven centers, where about 350 people currently live.
The monitoring was carried out with the participation of the field administrator of the project and the psychologist, who additionally provided psychological and psychosocial support to the residents. It has conducted a number of individual consultations and support sessions aimed at alleviating the psychological state of IDPs in temporary accommodation who have an increased need for such assistance.
In particular, psycho-educational conversations took place, during which issues of emotional stabilization, finding internal resources, overcoming stress and adapting to new living conditions were discussed. Particular attention was paid to practical stabilization exercises, self-support methods, support of family members in crisis situations, as well as awareness of one’s own needs and ways to satisfy them, taking into account current living conditions.
The provision of winter and psychological assistance is carried out within the framework of the MHWP project, which is implemented with the support of the Government of Canada and ADRA Canada. The project provides:
• financial support for the purchase of solid fuel in the Chernihiv region;
• provision of psychological and psychosocial assistance in six Protection Centers;
• provision of fuel briquettes to vulnerable households and 17 centers of collective residence of IDPs in front-line regions.
