ADRA Ukraine psychologist helps Poltava students to adapt to learning
On September 24, in one of the Poltava schools, Natalia Stepanenko, a psychologist from ADRA Ukraine, held group classes for first and fourth grade students. There were nine children in each group. Such classes are held every Tuesday as part of the project of psychological support of the educational process with the assistance of ADRA Australia.
Classes for first graders were aimed at their adaptation to school life and the development of communication skills. Children learned to compliment each other and performed the exercise “Give yourself five” which helped them to realize their strengths. During the lesson, an air alarm sounded, and the participants were forced to move to a shelter, where the lesson continued.
For fourth grade students, the psychologist conducted an art-therapeutic lesson, the purpose of which was to stabilize the emotional state, improve adaptation to learning and improve the quality of interaction in the classroom.
These measures became especially important after the tragic events of September 3, when many people died as a result of the attack on the Institute of Communications in Poltava. At this time the residents of the city, especially young children, need professional psychological support. Therefore, ADRA Ukraine continues to provide assistance and respond to new challenges.
