At the training in Mykolaiv, they taught the art of saying «no» without remorse
On November 6, the Center for Protection and Support of ADRA Ukraine in the city of Mykolaiv held a training session «The art of sating “no” without remorse» for adult participants — local residents and internally displaced persons. The purpose of the event was to increase the level of assertiveness — ability to confidently express one’s thoughts, needs and refuse without feeling guilty, maintaining respect for oneself and others. The event took place within the framework of the MHWP project with the support of the Government of Canada and ADRA Canada.
The training was conducted by psychologist Oksana Derkach and facilitator Kateryna Andreychenko. Together with them, the participants analyzed why it is sometimes difficult to say «no», what exactly causes guilt when refusing and how to learn to set personal boundaries. They became familiar with the difference between passive, aggressive, and confident behavior, and mastered the practical techniques of confident rejection.
During the war, such trainings are especially important, because they help people maintain psychological balance, prevent emotional burnout and conflict, and also support a culture of safe communication that corresponds to the humanitarian principles of «Do No Harm» and accountability to the affected population.
During the event, conditions were created for open exchange of experience, emotional support and practical development of new skills. The conducted training became an effective tool for developing confidence in communication and increasing the self-esteem of participants.
