Children in Kyiv learned to recognize gender-based violence
On July 8, ADRA Ukraine specialists held a training for children aged 14–17 from disadvantaged families who are cared for by the juvenile police of the Pechersk district in Kyiv. The event was dedicated to developing skills for interaction with victims of gender-based violence. The training took place within the framework of the project named “WMT Ukraine” (pure water, mental peace and social transport for Ukrainians affected by conflict) with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft and ADRA Czech Republic.
Psychologist Anastasia Zinyk and lawyer Sofia Melnychuk explained to children in an accessible way what gender-based violence is, how to recognize it and how it differs from ordinary conflict. Participants worked with examples of situations, discussed stories, answered questions and learned to understand how victims could be helped. The children also learned what is worth and what should not be said to a person who has suffered violence.
Police representatives told participants about the rights and algorithms for actions in case of violation.
Thanks to the small number of participants, the coaches were able to pay attention to each child, which made the training as effective as possible.
