Four more schools received powerful generators that will serve as backup power sources
Problems with electricity supply in eastern Ukraine remain constant and acute. Most hospitals are already equipped with generators, so local authorities asked us to focus on schools.
During air alarms, children are forced to descend into underground shelters – sometimes several times a day. If electricity disappears at this time, they remain in complete darkness, also without ventilation. In such conditions it is dangerous and psychologically difficult for children to be.
Thanks to the generous support of donors – the ESET Foundation and other private benefactors – we were able to purchase and deliver from Slovakia to the city of Chernihiv four large generators with a capacity of 50-100 kW, as well as two smaller ones – up to 5 kW. The most difficult thing remained: to safely deliver equipment directly to schools.
Finding a carrier who would have a car with hydraulics and would agree to go to dangerous settlements, where daily shelling continues, was not easy. But such a person was found – and thanks to him courage, the generators were successfully delivered to the lyceum in the city of Novgorod-Siversky, as well as to the schools of the villages of Mryn, Korop and Brovary.
Representatives of the regional school administration expressed sincere gratitude:
“Slovakia is a small country, but we receive extremely valuable help from you. Only a few organizations dare to work in such distant and dangerous places. But ADRA does not forget about us – and we really appreciate it. ”
In Chernihiv, ADRA has already helped with the restoration of several kindergartens: they replaced broken windows and roofs, reconstructed underground shelters for children. We also regularly supply medicines to hospitals in the region and transfer food and hygiene kits to families in difficult life circumstances.
We are sincerely grateful to the partners from the humanitarian organization named “Perla Zdravia”, who help with logistics and direct transfer of assistance to those who need it.
