With faith and support: how the community and ADRA Ukraine helped Angela take a step towards a new life
Says Peter Prodan, pastor of the third community of Seventh-day Adventists in the city of Mykolaiv:
– Angela Kozhanova is the daughter of one of our believers. She is from the Mykolaiv region, from the village of Privitne (which fell under occupation), long before the war moved to Mykolaiv. At the beginning of the war she took her mother, who needed care and is over 80 years old. That’s why they live here in the city.
Back in 2007, Angela got into an accident and received serious damage to the hip joint. Then she underwent surgery, installed two titanium screws. After half a year of rehabilitation, she learned to walk again. In 2008, she was diagnosed with the second group of disability, and the next year, despite the difficult condition, she was transferred to the third group of disability. Since then, she lives with constant pain and restriction in movement. The only solution was joint replacement.
Angela found a doctor ready to carry out the operation here in Mykolaiv and put a quality foreign prosthesis. We in the community decided not to stand aside. Personally, as a pastor, I visited their family more than once, and this story touched me deeply. We started fundraising – first through the Internet, among friends on Instagram. Thus managed to collect more than UAH 10, 000.
In parallel, I turned to the charitable organization ADRA Ukraine. We were told that it is possible to get help if we prepare the relevant documents. We collected everything, applied – and thanks to ADRA Ukraine, Angela received another UAH 10, 000 of support.
Subsequently, we organized a charity fair at the church – additionally collected another UAH 25, 000. In general, it was possible to accumulate almost a third of the required amount. Angela had to take the rest on credit.
She had surgery three weeks ago. It was successful. Angela’s condition has improved significantly, and now she is gradually recovering, already learning to walk. She is very grateful to everyone who joined: ADRA Ukraine and the Seventh-day Adventist Church community. Together we managed to support the person at a very important moment in his life.
