Zhytomyr Magistrate celebrated the Vyshyvanka and Family Day with events to maintain mental health
On May 15, on the Vyshyvanka and Family Day, the city of Zhytomyr and six communities of the region joined the all-Ukrainian initiative “SensoTeka – How are you?” As part of the National Mental Health Program, implemented with the assistance of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
More than 300 visitors and participants of the event gathered in the building of the Zhytomyr Magistrate, which combined a deep Ukrainian tradition with a modern approach to psychological well-being. At the invitation of the regional coordinator of the program in the Zhytomyr region, Irina Gladka, ADRA Ukraine psychologist Julia Zalutska conducted a series of psychological practical exercises.
Within the framework of the project, with the support of ADRA Sweden and the Radiohjälpen charity organization, Julia Zalutska presented self-help techniques aimed at maintaining emotional balance. Participants made their own doll named Veselynka (EN: a toy of joy), created fairy tales with dolls, made a self-help book according to the method of Svitlana Royz and learned breathing exercises. More than 40 children joined the creative activity. Facilitator Anna Khvelos spoke about the center for protection and assistance of ADRA Ukraine (60 Kievskaya St.) and the activities that take place there.
The event was a reminder that mental health is not only medicine, but also culture, community, dialogue and national traditions. It is at the intersection of heritage and modern approaches that a space of trust and support is born, where everyone can be heard.
