ADRA Ukraine has arranged social bus trips for people living in the immediate vicinity to the frontline in Dnipropetrovsk Region
Since late August, residents of Tomakivska village territorial community in Nikopol District, Dnipropetrovsk Region have had a chance to reach critical infrastructure facility using social buses offered by ADRA Ukraine. These social buses were launched as part of the GFFO project supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, ADRA Germany, and Aktion Deutschland Hilft, in response to the request by Tomakivska Village Council, since the community is located in the immediate vicinity to the frontline and desperately needs the transport assistance. The population os this territorial community is around 14 575 people. The community has also received around 3 879 IDPs.
Thanks to ADRA Ukraine and its partners, now the community has three social bus routes:
– Krasnopil – Tarasivka – Zelenyi Hai – Veselyi Yar – Zaporizhzhia and back;
– Novokatioschyne – Chaiky – Mykhailivka – Harbuzivka – Zaporizhzhia and back;
– Zaporizka Balka – Hannivka – Myrolyubivka – Hrusheve – Zaporizke – Zaporizhzhia and back.
Zelenohaisk Prefect District under Tomakivska Village Council is currently a hope for over 500 people, almost half of whom are internally displaced persons from non-government-controlled areas and active combat zone. The public transportation system has not been available here for over a year due to poor commercial feasibility for carriers, since most people living in the community are elderly with limited income and often cannot afford the fares. Moreover, the access to the village is difficult due to the lack of paved roads, so it is quite challenging to reach the location in passenger cars. A taxi ride from Krasnopil to Zaporizhzhia costs around UAH 1000, which is an unaffordable price for elderly people and IDPs.
“On behalf of our prefect district, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to ADRA Ukraien for this support. For over a years, we hadn’t had any transport communication with Zaporizhzhia. Please, accept the sincere gratitude on behalf of all our community, including both local population and IDPs”, Alina, the prefect of Zelenohaisk Prefect District under Tomakivska Village Council, says.
Now, the community residents once again have a bridge to outer world and finally can freely receive the state benefits, access social, administrative and local services, and shop at pharmacies and grocery stores in Zaporizhzhia.
