The humanitarian mission of the UN World Food Program (WFP) together with ADRA Ukraine and with the support of ADRA Switzerland delivered 460 food kits to the front-line village of Borova, Kharkiv region, which lives under constant shelling. Assistance was received by 230 residents of the — community, two kits for each person, designed for two months. This will provide basic nutritional needs for people for the coming period.

For several months, access to the Borova community remained extremely difficult due to constant artillery shelling and danger from drones. Therefore, the UN WFP took over the logistics organization of the humanitarian convoy so that the aid went to those who remained at risk. The mission plan was developed together with the ADRA Ukraine team and the Dnipro office of WFP. The representative of ADRA Ukraine as part of the convoy was the head of the project Maryna Potekha, who coordinated the work directly on the spot together with the head of the community Oleksandr Tertyshnyi.

Maryna Potekha, head of the UN WFP project from ADRA Ukraine:

«For several months in a row, we, as partners of the UN WFP, could not reach Borova. Artillery shelling, kamikaze drones and the most dangerous — “zhdun-drones” drones,  that waiting on the roads waiting for the moment to strike. Every outing — is a risk to the life of our team.
For some time, the military administration did not allow distribution: any gathering of people could become a target. But we knew that there, behind the line of silence, live people — without light, without help, without hope. And we had to find a way.
Together with representatives of the Dnipro office of WFP, we have planned in detail each stage of the mission – from the route to the unloading process, responding to changes in the situation just on the way. At 4:30 a.m., the column left Kharkiv to make it before the sky began to comb the drones. By eight in the morning we were already there.
Among the destroyed houses and explosions, we unloaded the sets – for two months at once, because it is not known when we will be able to return next time. It wasn’t just delivery. It was the mission of life.
Together with the head of the community, under constant control of the situation, we did what seemed impossible. Those who remained there are kept on the edge. But they hold on. And we’ll be around — as long as we can».
