Social transport from ADRA Ukraine: residents of eastern Ukraine get to critical infrastructure thanks to dozens of routes
Within the framework of the WMTW Ukraine «Safe water, mental peace, social transport and winterization for Ukrainians affected by conflict», financed by donors Aktion Deutschland Hilft (Germany) and ADRA Czech Republic, six buses are operating in the east of Ukraine today, equipped for free and safe transportation of people from remote communities where there is no other transport. So far, more than 29 routes have been launched, covering Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. These routes enable residents of remote and low-mobility areas to access health facilities, pharmacies, banking and administrative services, shops and other vital infrastructure facilities. Social transport from ADRA Ukraine is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable categories of the population: elderly people, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, families with children, etc.
According to this project, all drivers of social transport have undergone specialized training in providing first aid and mine safety, which is critically important for working in conditions of increased danger. Many of them have considerable experience: previously, they participated in evacuation flights from front-line communities in various regions of Ukraine.
It is planned to provide social transportation to at least 22,000 beneficiaries by the end of June 2026. The project continues to develop, adapting to the needs of communities and changes in the security situation, and its main goal remains to support people who find themselves in conditions of limited access to basic services.
