Three sisters: the war took away childhood, but not hope

Childhood. In most of us, it left warm memories — laughter with friends, the smell of mom’s kitchen, a sense of home and safety. Larysa and her sisters ended this childhood too early.

First — explosions, sirens, fear when houses are destroyed around. But even this was not the worst blow. One day they lost mom — a person who was everything: support, protection, love. The usual world was lost. The three girls were left alone.

Older Larysa — is a little over 18. But she must grow up. Takes care of the younger ones, takes care of all the worries, even forms guardianship in order to officially become their protection. Imagine: a girl who, instead of walking with friends or dreaming, counts a budget, thinks about what to cook for dinner and how to calm the younger ones when they cry.

Now they live in a temporary shelter near the city of Kyiv. It is calmer there than in the native Kherson region. But the feeling of loss and struggle for survival does not disappear.

And that’s where the chance comes in. Thanks to ADRA Ukraine and partners, girls received training kits — notebooks, backpack and pens. It would seem like trifles. But for Sofia and Ivanka, it became a real sign: they are not alone. There are people who care. There is a future to dream about.

«Thank you very much for the help you need at such a time», — says Larysa quietly. In her eyes — fatigue, pain, but also hope. Because she knows: there are still those who are ready to reach out.

Today you can become part of this story. Your contribution to the ADRA Kids — project is not just money. This is a childhood that war is trying to steal. It is learning that opens the door to the future. This is support that says: you are not alone.

Not every one of us can stop the war. But each of us can stop the pain of one child. Can give them a smile, a restful sleep and hope, which is so lacking.

Larysa, Sofia and Ivanka — are only three of thousands of children who became adults too early. They didn’t dream of a vault or an escape. They wanted to go to school, play with friends, hug mom and dad.

The war stole a part of their childhood. But together we can restore their faith in goodness. Each of your donations — is a step towards making these children feel like children again. So that their eyes glow with happiness, not tears.
Any amount of the support is important. Your donation today can change lives forever. Please, support ADRA Kids.

Give children a chance to dream again, laugh and feel that the world is — good.
