“I dared to leave only because my neighbor was driving”: in Odesa, IDPs from the Kherson region were registered for financial assistance
For many residents of the occupied part of the Kherson region, evacuation became one of the most difficult decisions in life. During the registration for cash assistance in the city of Odesa, people shared their stories: someone talked about a long and exhausting road, and one woman admitted that she dared to leave only because her neighbor was leaving nearby.

It was to support such people that ADRA Ukraine specialists registered for cash assistance from the UN World Food Programme (WFP) with the support of ADRA Switzerland. Registration took place in the Kherson hub «Vilni razom» (EN: Free together) in Odesa.

Within the framework of the UN WFP program «Humanitarian aid by priorities for evacuees and victims of attacks», each registered participant received a one-time payment of 12,300 UAH (~270 USD), designed to cover basic needs for three months.

Representatives of the Odesa office of the UN World Food Programme also visited the hub. They talked to people, asked about their way to a safer place and asked what help they needed most today.

Each such meeting is not only a paperwork. It is an opportunity to listen to and support people who survived the occupation, forced evacuation and loss of normal life in the first months after moving.
