In the village of Urozhayne, Beryslav district of Kherson region, a local volunteer who assisted ADRA Ukraine in distributing bread provided by the UN World Food Programme (WFP) with the support of ADRA Switzerland was severely wounded. The incident occurred on December 1 at around 11:15 a.m., when volunteer Ihor Ilnytskyi (born in 1964), was driving back after completing the distribution. He was attacked by an FPV drone. Ihor is now in the hospital in critical condition, and his leg has been amputated.

The drone hit the front right passenger seat of the vehicle. Local residents and military personnel noticed the incident, but due to the presence of another drone that was “hunting” nearby, it was initially impossible to safely extract the victim. Only once the situation became less threatening were locals able to evacuate Ihor and transport him to a hospital in Velyka Oleksandrivka. According to his relatives, he lost a significant amount of blood and remains in a critical state.

Residents also reported that following the initial strike on the vehicle, three additional drone drops occurred, completely destroying the car. At the time of the attack, the vehicle was not carrying humanitarian cargo.

Ihor Ilnytskyi and his family have been cooperating with the ADRA Ukraine team since the very beginning of the WFP project, helping to organize distributions in some of the most dangerous areas of Kherson region.

ADRA Ukraine colleagues have launched a fundraising campaign to support the severely injured volunteer and his family.

Earlier, in an interview about the dangers and constant risks faced by ADRA Ukraine volunteers and staff working in the Beryslav district, Ihor’s daughter — Maryna Ilnytska — spoke about these challenges.
